Photosynthesis Raps A teacher used blabberize and movie maker to create raps about photsynthesis, then published them to a wiki.

Map Testing goal sheet.doc
We are doing MAP testing currently. I was interested in the student goal setting worksheets. There is actually a 3 page print out per student. I chose to simplify the form by just creating a table that allowed for the students to write in their fall and winter RIT scores and then a target spring score. I pulled the actual forms from the nwea site up on my computer and had each child come over individually for a mini conference with me. They wrote down their fall and winter RIT scores in math and then we discussed a target spring score, which they wrote down also. The goal setting sheet also tells the strands that are strengths for them and weaknesses for them. I briefly pointed out their strengths and then we talked about the weakest area. We then verbally discussed strategies to use on the test for this. One student I used as my "guinea pig" and I actually printed the 3 sheets from the site and we actually wrote our goals down. The kids were extremely motivated to try and reach their "goal" number. When the test was over, they all knew where their RIT score was located and wrote it directly on their sheet, which was in front of them the entire time. Only 1 student had a score lower than his winter score and one student's score stayed the same. The remaining 21 students all went up and many surpassed their target score! I am currently doing the same thing for reading, which we will take on Friday. Again, they are extremely motivated, especially after seeing the results from math. I really like the individually conferencing piece of it. I feel as though it shows them I am invested in them and how they perform. My "guinea pig" child was specifically chosen because he lacks motivation and effort. He has attention problems, as well as minimal parental support. His poor self confidence and self esteem hinder his ability to learn and feel good about himself as a learner. I feel as though this process was most critical to him! He made significant growth in the math score. We celebrated this and have done the goals for the reading. I am very excited to see how he does. Next year, I will be able to start the year off with my students scores from second grade, so when they take the fall session, I will already be able to goal set with them. By doing it through the year, I will be very curious to see what effect it has on the scores at the end of the year. GPiero Wilson Hill

I used Poll Everywhere to convert our OGT Review Guide mutiple choice practice questions into Poll Everywhere text polls. Kids were really engaged and excited about seeing the "real time" results appear as they texted in their responses. I am certain that I had more students attempting responses than when I simply ask them to commit to a response "in their heads." I cannot provide a direct link to my polls, but if you would like to register for your own free educator membership, CLICK HERE. John Jordan Worthington Kilbourne High School

Prezi is a good way to learn important background information about students at the beginning of the year. I created a presentation which included 10 things about myself. Students were then given an opportunity to do the same thing about themselves using paper and pencil, powerpoint or prezi. Many of the students included information about their interests, hobbies, travels and family. This helps me to know them better and to suggest books which they might be interested in reading.(Linda Evans, McCord)
